About the 4-axis arm PCB

4-axis arm is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by vinbot28, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 49.5 × 45.5 mm, with 12 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 6 connectors, 5 switches and 1 module.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

A robot arm driven by servos and an arduino.

I created this project after seeing so many 6 axis arms pop up all over YouTube. Wanting one of my own, I quickly realized how much the components costed and the complexity of the control systems. Despite that, I really wanted to design and play with a robotic arm, and hence the decision to make a 4 axis. Additionally, I couldn't pass down the opportunity to CAD and design a PCB...

4-axis arm: common questions

What microcontroller does the 4-axis arm use?

The 4-axis arm is built around the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the 4-axis arm PCB?

The 4-axis arm measures 49.5 × 45.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 4-axis arm?

12 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 4-axis arm design files?

From the vinbot28/4-axis-arm repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 4-axis arm design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which vinbot28 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the 4-axis arm without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
