About the Medalv2 PCB
Medalv2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by VincentPeters, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 45 × 45 mm, with 22 components from 8 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the C145558, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 8 diodes, 8 resistors, 2 capacitors, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 battery holder.
It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.
From the project
PCB ping-pong medal: round ATtiny1616 board with an 8-LED ring animation, designed code-first (circuit-synth + headless pcbnew/Freerouting). The board is the medal.
Experiment: generate the medal's KiCad schematic + netlist from Python, with no GUI, using circuit-synth. This is the "AI can drive the hardware phases" proof-of-concept.
This generates medal/ (.kicadpro, .kicadsch, .net, .json).
The auto-drawn KiCad sheet is label-based and scattered (see the ERC note above). For documentation, drawschematic.py redraws the same circuit with real wires + standard VCC/GND power flags — ATtiny1616, the 8 resistor+LED chains, CR2032/slide-switch power, decoupling, and the UPDI pads. It is verified net-for-net against medal/kdgpingpongmedal.net. Outputs…

Medalv2: common questions
What microcontroller does the Medalv2 use?
The Medalv2 is built around the C145558, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the Medalv2 PCB?
The Medalv2 measures 45 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Medalv2?
22 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Medalv2 design files?
From the VincentPeters/pingpong-medal repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Medalv2 design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which VincentPeters chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Medalv2 without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
