About the VArm6 PCB

VArm6 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by VJPatz, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a board, with 11 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the U1, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the U2. By type, the board carries 6 switches, 3 connectors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open-source 6-DOF joystick-controlled robotic arm — Arduino Mega + PCA9685

A fully open-source, 6-degree-of-freedom robotic arm controlled by three analog joysticks. Built on an Arduino Mega 2560 + PCA9685 PWM driver. Designed to be hacked, extended, and rebuilt.

- 6 independent servo joints — Base, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist, Rotate, Grip - Preventing sloppy multi-joint drift - Momentum-based motion with configurable acceleration and deceleration - One-button hold to glide all joints back to a safe home position - PCA9685 I2C health check on boot — halts with error if driver is missing

VArm6: common questions

What microcontroller does the VArm6 use?

The VArm6 is built around the U1, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How many components are on the VArm6?

11 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the VArm6 design files?

From the VJPatz/VArm6 repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the VArm6 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which VJPatz chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the VArm6 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
