About the RotaryEncoderDebounced PCB

RotaryEncoderDebounced is an open source PCB design by XavierBerger, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 23 × 20 mm, with 16 components from 8 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 74HC14. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 3 connectors, 1 IC and 1 switch.

Rotary Encoder with hardware Debouncer

A rotary encoder tracks shaft rotation by outputting pulses. However, mechanical switches in encoders suffer from contact bounce, causing false signals.

This projet propose a solution to debounced Rotary Encoder signal at hardware level.

When encoder contacts close or open, they bounce, creating multiple rapid signal changes. These can be misinterpreted as several rotations or direction changes.

RotaryEncoderDebounced: common questions

How big is the RotaryEncoderDebounced PCB?

The RotaryEncoderDebounced measures 23 × 20 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RotaryEncoderDebounced?

16 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RotaryEncoderDebounced design files?

From the XavierBerger/RotaryEncoderDebounced repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RotaryEncoderDebounced design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which XavierBerger chose for the repository.
