About the SW63 mk4 PCB

SW63 mk4 is an open source STM32 PCB design by xx0x, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 34.8 × 35.6 mm, with 64 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32L052K8UX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the DIO5518BST5, MCP1711T-3.3I/OT, TLC5916IPWR and DS3231MZ. By type, the board carries 22 diodes, 16 resistors, 12 capacitors, 7 ICs, 3 transistors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

Sci-fi inspired electronic watch. MK4 currently in the development (out in 2026).

When the button is briefly pressed, SW63 tells you the time using a sequence of LED blinks. It's not a binary clock, it's inspired by the analog clock hands movement and uses quarters, halves and so on; similar to how people used to tell the time before the digital clock became popular.

16:35 half past - four - hours - and - five - minutes - PM

6:57 three - minutes - to - whole - seven - hours

SW63 mk4: common questions

What microcontroller does the SW63 mk4 use?

The SW63 mk4 is built around the STM32L052K8UX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the SW63 mk4 PCB?

The SW63 mk4 measures 34.8 × 35.6 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SW63 mk4?

64 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SW63 mk4 design files?

From the xx0x/sw63 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SW63 mk4 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which xx0x chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SW63 mk4 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
