About the NeptuneESC PCB
NeptuneESC is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by 15jgme, published on GitHub under the LGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 29 mm, with 60 components from 21 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ATmega8A-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the ACS712xLCTR-20A. By type, the board carries 32 resistors, 11 capacitors, 9 transistors, 3 diodes, 2 ICs and 2 connectors.
It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.
From the project
The goal of this project is to create the smallest possible SMD ESC module. Work is largely based of schematics provided by Blue Robotics in their BlueESC.
The design is made to be compatable with assembly and board fabrication from [JLCPCB]https://jlcpcb.com/
The current size is about 5cm by 2cm in a single PCB, and is designed to support motors used in midsized UAV applications.
As with the BlueESC, Neptune operates on tgy firmware and can be run off of an I2C connection, making it ideal for daisychaining and tinkering. Note that since this project was in active development tgy is no longer maintained, but the atmega8a-au should allow for a variety of different firmware if desired.

NeptuneESC: common questions
What microcontroller does the NeptuneESC use?
The NeptuneESC is built around the ATmega8A-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the NeptuneESC PCB?
The NeptuneESC measures 50 × 29 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the NeptuneESC?
60 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the NeptuneESC design files?
From the 15jgme/NeptuneESC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the NeptuneESC design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its LGPL-3.0 license, which 15jgme chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the NeptuneESC without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
