About the Alphadisplays PCB

Alphadisplays is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by 74hc595, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 109.2 × 33.7 mm, with 18 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega809-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 9 diodes, 2 connectors, 2 switches, 2 capacitors, 2 resistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

KiCad symbols and footprints for HP/Litronix/Siemens/Osram/Avago/Broadcom intelligent alphanumeric LED displays

KiCad symbols and footprints for 4- and 8-character intelligent segmented/dot-matrix alphanumeric displays like the DL1414, DL2416, HDSP-2112, PDSP1881, etc.

At this time, the library does not include symbols/footprints for the exotic/mil-spec parts.

Some parts, like the PDSP188x and HDSP-2xxx, do not have pins in all positions. To facilitate the use of regular DIP sockets and single inline pin sockets, alternative footprints have been provided for these parts that have holes in all positions. (they end with a DIPxx suffix)

Alphadisplays: common questions

What microcontroller does the Alphadisplays use?

The Alphadisplays is built around the ATmega809-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Alphadisplays PCB?

The Alphadisplays measures 109.2 × 33.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Alphadisplays?

18 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Alphadisplays design files?

From the 74hc595/kicad-intelligent-displays repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Alphadisplays design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with 74hc595. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Alphadisplays without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
