About the Laser tunnel PCB

Laser tunnel is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by aidtopia, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 75 × 75 mm, with 55 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Pro_Mini, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the DFPlayerMini. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 10 diodes, 8 connectors, 6 test points, 5 capacitors and 2 ICs.

From the project

Design for a laser tunnel for a haunted house

Adrian McCarthy (a.k.a. Hayward Haunter) 2022

WELCOME NORCAL HAUNTERS The documentation is a work in progress, but you should be able to follow along with these [build instructions][99].

The Laser Tunnel is a special effects projector that creates a swirling cone of light. They are common in Halloween displays and haunted houses. Simple ones can be made with a laser pointer aimed at a spinning mirror (in a darkened area filled with theatrical haze or fog).

Laser tunnel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Laser tunnel use?

The Laser tunnel is built around the Arduino_Pro_Mini, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Laser tunnel PCB?

The Laser tunnel measures 75 × 75 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Laser tunnel?

55 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Laser tunnel design files?

From the aidtopia/laser_tunnel repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Laser tunnel design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with aidtopia. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Laser tunnel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
