About the PiDriver PCB

PiDriver is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by AlpineOT, published on GitHub under the BSD-3-Clause license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 65 × 56 mm, with 59 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family. By type, the board carries 20 diodes, 13 connectors, 10 transistors, 10 resistors and 2 capacitors.

From the project

KiCad Raspberry Pi Solenoid Driver Board

Alpine designed this RPi add-on board to drive solenoids for test automation; however, it's a generic 10-channel MOSFET board that could also be used to drive relays, LEDS, DC motors, etc.

Controls up to 10 solenoids (though the number that can be simultaneously activated will depend upon the solenoid and capacity of your power supply) 2 of the 10 channels have PWM capability Designed for a 9-24V power input and, thus, 9-24V solenoids On-board flyback protection for inductive loads * Designed for fast solenoid switching

PiDriver: common questions

What microcontroller does the PiDriver use?

The PiDriver is built around the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the PiDriver PCB?

The PiDriver measures 65 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PiDriver?

59 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PiDriver design files?

From the AlpineOT/PiDriver repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PiDriver design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-3-Clause license, which AlpineOT chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PiDriver without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
