About the First-Custom-PCB-Controller

First-Custom-PCB-Controller is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Apfelmark33, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 85.1 × 45.1 mm, with 14 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2350-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 5 resistors, 4 diodes, 3 switches, 1 IC and 1 buzzer.

From the project

A simple custom pbc controller board to learn how to design one.

A custom, password-protected PCB controller board that acts as a digital combination lock system. It's essentially a safe but without anything in it (yet).

I used KICad to make the pbc and the arduino IDE for the code.

How it Works Pathfinder is a simple electronic lock system that uses 3 buttons to enter a password. As you press the buttons, LEDs light up to show your progress, and a small speaker (piezo buzzer) plays different sounds to let you know if your password was right or wrong.

First-Custom-PCB-Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the First-Custom-PCB-Controller use?

The First-Custom-PCB-Controller is built around the XIAO-RP2350-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the First-Custom-PCB-Controller?

The First-Custom-PCB-Controller measures 85.1 × 45.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the First-Custom-PCB-Controller?

14 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the First-Custom-PCB-Controller design files?

From the Apfelmark33/First-Custom-PCB-Controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the First-Custom-PCB-Controller design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Apfelmark33. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the First-Custom-PCB-Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
