About the Main PCB

Main is an open source STM32 PCB design by apoluekt, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 73 × 139 mm, with 121 components from 35 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32U385RGT6Q, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the TPS61299DRLR, MX25R6435FM2IL0, TLV73333PDBVR, LM66100QDCKRQ1 and NBM5100A. By type, the board carries 51 switches, 25 capacitors, 24 resistors, 7 ICs, 5 inductors and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the science & space designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open-source and open-hardware scientific RPN calculator

PCBs: KiCad design files (schematic and PCBs) for all sevel layers. Where appropriate, Python files are also provided to produce silkscreen labels, place components, and make edge cuts. production: Production files created in KiCad (Gerber files, bill of materials, position files for assembly service) for each of the 7 PCBs. These can normally be submitted to the PCB prototyping service without modifications.

Main: common questions

What microcontroller does the Main use?

The Main is built around the STM32U385RGT6Q, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Main PCB?

The Main measures 73 × 139 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.8 mm thick.

How many components are on the Main?

121 components, from 35 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Main design files?

From the apoluekt/OpenRPNCalc repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Main design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which apoluekt chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Main without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
