About the Led controller PCB

Led controller is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by astoeckel, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 88.9 × 97.8 mm, with 62 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA168A-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM339, 74HCT04_3V3, LP2950ACZ33, 74HC08_3V3 and 7905_wno. By type, the board carries 15 capacitors, 11 resistors, 7 connectors, 6 ICs, 4 transistors and 4 diodes.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

4-channel high power LED buck converter constant current source (0.9 A per channel, 7-25V)

This repository contains the schematics and Gerber files for a four-channel high power LED constant current source with integrated 12-bit PWM dimmer. The circuit is built entirely from easily sourceable through-hole components, and the two-layer PCB can be cheaply manufactured (expect about $15 for ten boards, excl. shipping, total cost of one board will be about $20, with high precision trimmer potentiometers and the ATmega88 AVR microcontroller being the most expensive parts).

Led controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Led controller use?

The Led controller is built around the ATMEGA168A-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Led controller PCB?

The Led controller measures 88.9 × 97.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Led controller?

62 components, from 25 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Led controller design files?

From the astoeckel/led-controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Led controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which astoeckel chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Led controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
