About the Edge lit display PCB
Edge lit display is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by bmatcuk, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 204 × 20 mm, with 40 components from 21 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4TQFP-44, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TLC59711PWPR. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 9 diodes, 8 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 connectors and 2 inductors.
It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.
From the project
A laser-etched acrylic edge-lit display including schematics, pcb, and laser cut enclosure.
The microcontroller communicates with a [TLC5971] over SPI to drive the eight RGB LEDs. The [TLC5971] is a 12-channel, constant-current sink, 16-bit PWM LED driver (ie, capable of driving four RGB LEDs at a time). Therefore, the eight RGB LEDs are divided into two groups and time-multiplexed by the microcontroller using two high-side PMOS transistors. This allows us to address each channel of each LED individually.

Edge lit display: common questions
What microcontroller does the Edge lit display use?
The Edge lit display is built around the ATMEGA32U4TQFP-44, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the Edge lit display PCB?
The Edge lit display measures 204 × 20 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Edge lit display?
40 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Edge lit display design files?
From the bmatcuk/edge-lit-display repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Edge lit display design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with bmatcuk. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Edge lit display without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
