This USB Multi-function Laboratory Instrument will be inexpensive and therefore less capable than the AD2 or ADALM 2000 while still fulfilling the requirements for most laboratory exercises in the undergraduate ECE curriculum. This new device should use a microcontroller with analog front ends for the Oscilloscope and Wave Form Generator functionality. It should function as a 2 channel Oscilloscope and Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) with a Bandwidth of up to 2 MHz and a sample rate of 5 Msps, a 16 channel logic analyzer, and be controllable via USB from a PC (Windows, Mac, and Linux) as…

ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument: common questions

What microcontroller does the ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument use?

The ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument is built around the STM32H562VGTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument PCB?

The ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument measures 195.4 × 91.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument?

224 components, from 82 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument design files?

From the bradencamp/ECE-Lab-USB-MultiTool repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with bradencamp. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ECE USB Multi-Function Lab Instrument without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
