About the Usb proto PCB

Usb proto is an open source STM32 PCB design by brainsmoke, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 77 × 47 mm, with 80 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F042G6Ux, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3 and USBLC6-2P6. By type, the board carries 57 connectors, 8 resistors, 4 switches, 4 diodes, 4 capacitors and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools, keyboards and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

Usb proto: common questions

What microcontroller does the Usb proto use?

The Usb proto is built around the STM32F042G6Ux, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Usb proto PCB?

The Usb proto measures 77 × 47 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Usb proto?

80 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Usb proto design files?

From the brainsmoke/usb_proto repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Usb proto design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-4.0 license, which brainsmoke chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Usb proto without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
