About the WARS-Birdhouse PCB

WARS-Birdhouse is an open source STM32 PCB design by brucemack, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 57 × 35.5 mm, with 20 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32L031F6Px, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MCP1700-3302E_SOT23 and RFM95W-868S2. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 5 resistors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the rf & radio and power & battery designs in this gallery.

WARS LoRa Birdhouse Project ===========================

Looking for a different way to tweet? This project explores the potential of using low-cost/low-bandwidth LoRa radios to build simple mesh networks that can pass text messages around town. Networks of this type could be useful for emergency communications or other applications that can take advantage of the fully-autonomous (carbon-neutral) nature of the birdhouse repeater stations. This project is being undertaken by members of the Wellesley Amateur Radio Society, W1TKZ. The design is made available for amateur (non-commercial)…

WARS-Birdhouse: common questions

What microcontroller does the WARS-Birdhouse use?

The WARS-Birdhouse is built around the STM32L031F6Px, from the STM32 family.

How big is the WARS-Birdhouse PCB?

The WARS-Birdhouse measures 57 × 35.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the WARS-Birdhouse?

20 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the WARS-Birdhouse design files?

From the brucemack/WARS-Birdhouse repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the WARS-Birdhouse design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which brucemack chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the WARS-Birdhouse without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
