About the Eightu PCB

Eightu is an open source STM32 PCB design by calvin-mcd, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 250.9 × 79.4 mm, with 60 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F072CBT6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the XC6206PXXXMR-REGULATOR_LINEAR. By type, the board carries 46 diodes, 9 capacitors, 2 ICs, 1 connector, 1 switch and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

stagger & ortho pcbs for the EIGHTU keyboard by @obobobobo!

These are stagger & ortho pcbs for the Eightu by @obobobobo! Eightu is a 13.25u 40% keyboard. It features an island spacebar with 8u spacebar support (and many different bottom row options), usbc daughterboard, arrow cluster, 7degree typing angle, tadpole mount, m4 screws and big bezels.

Please beware!!! The staggered pcb has been fully tested and is working. The ortho version has not been fully tested.

Eightu: common questions

What microcontroller does the Eightu use?

The Eightu is built around the STM32F072CBT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Eightu PCB?

The Eightu measures 250.9 × 79.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Eightu?

60 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Eightu design files?

From the calvin-mcd/Eightu repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Eightu design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Eightu without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
