compact 60ish keyboard inspired by 40s layouts & formfactors

I designed this keyboard after asking my friend Peter what his ideal keyboard would be. His answer was:"Ehm... I like numbers!". So I tried to make a board that keeps the functionality of a 60% keyboard while offering it in a 40s inspired form factor.

It takes inspiration from ai03’s UT47.2 and EODesigns\#4352’s Humble40 as well as trash man\#6005’s v4n4g0n and NoahK\#1290’s Monorail pcbs.

The PETER keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the The PETER keyboard use?

The The PETER keyboard is built around the ATmega32U4-M, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the The PETER keyboard PCB?

The The PETER keyboard measures 243.3 × 95.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the The PETER keyboard?

141 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the The PETER keyboard design files?

From the calvin-mcd/the-PETER-keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the The PETER keyboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which calvin-mcd chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the The PETER keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
