About the Obc PCB

Obc is an open source NXP PCB design by candacedo, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 42 × 42 mm, with 6 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Teensy4.0, from the NXP family. By type, the board carries 5 connectors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the rf & radio, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

TigerCub, an accessible PocketQube platform.

TigerCub is a satellite bus in the PocketQube form factor, designed to be accessible to students and amateur nanosatellite developers. It uses primarily commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components and relatively simple custom-designed PCBs, lowering barriers of entry for developers who are venturing into the PocketQube world.

I developed TigerCub for my undergraduate senior independent work. The vast majority of design work is complete and some subsystems have been tested in laboratory environments, but the satellite bus has yet to undergo full functional testing and testing in flight-like…

Obc: common questions

What microcontroller does the Obc use?

The Obc is built around the Teensy4.0, from the NXP family.

How big is the Obc PCB?

The Obc measures 42 × 42 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Obc?

6 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Obc design files?

From the candacedo/tigercub-pq repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Obc design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which candacedo chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Obc without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
