Hardware for EPFL Rocket Team Hermes Supersonic Test Rocket

Semester project completed with the EPFL Rocket Team in 2022.

Hermes II is a compact avionics architecture developed for a small experimental rocket intended for validation flights and data generation. The project focused on redesigning the electronics of the original Hermes platform into a smaller, more modular system with telemetry, GPS, multiple sensor boards, and improved integration inside the rocket.

PCB v1: common questions

What microcontroller does the PCB v1 use?

The PCB v1 is built around the Teensy3.5, from the NXP family.

How big is the PCB v1?

The PCB v1 measures 140.8 × 32.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PCB v1?

68 components, from 39 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PCB v1 design files?

From the chaxaf/Supersonic-Test-Rocket repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PCB v1 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with chaxaf. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the PCB v1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
