Compact Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensor node PCB design, firmware and Android app

The BLE SoC integrates an ARM Cortex-M3 to control the wireless transceiver and interface with the sensors. This design combines an ambient light sensor, a temperature sensor, and an accelerometer to enable applications such as building automation, industrial equipment monitoring, etc.

A software interface app to display and log data is included, and can be readily installed on any Android system with BLE capabilities. This app can communicate with and configure any sensor node within the communications radius. The app also provides estimates of the signal strength and remaining battery…

Iot platform: common questions

What microcontroller does the Iot platform use?

The Iot platform is built around the CC2640F128RSMT, from the TI MSP430/CC family.

How big is the Iot platform PCB?

The Iot platform measures 25.4 × 43.2 mm, has 3 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Iot platform?

41 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Iot platform design files?

From the cmcmicrosystems/iot_platform repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Iot platform design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cmcmicrosystems. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Iot platform without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug TI MSP430/CC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
