About the Bloodlight hardware PCB

Bloodlight hardware is an open source STM32 PCB design by CodethinkLabs, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 28 × 78 mm, with 96 components from 54 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32G474CBxx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AD8605, ULN2803A, TPS73433DDCR, LM4132 and USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 35 capacitors, 23 resistors, 20 LEDs, 10 ICs, 3 connectors and 3 inductors.

From the project

Medical PPG Testbed Hardware

This is a test-bed for medical photoplethysmography (PPG).

The current design has 16 LED's and 4 Photodiodes covering multiple wavelengths between visible light and near infrared (roughly 400nm-1600nm).

You'll need KiCad 5 to view or modify the schematics/pcb. For Ubuntu users I'd suggest using this PPA:

If you wish to modify the schematics then you should install the latest symbols, footprints and 3D models from git.

Bloodlight hardware: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bloodlight hardware use?

The Bloodlight hardware is built around the STM32G474CBxx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Bloodlight hardware PCB?

The Bloodlight hardware measures 28 × 78 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bloodlight hardware?

96 components, from 54 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bloodlight hardware design files?

From the CodethinkLabs/bloodlight-hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bloodlight hardware design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which CodethinkLabs chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Bloodlight hardware without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
