About the Euclidean-VCA PCB

Euclidean-VCA is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by cookiemonsternz, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 107 × 60.6 mm, with 56 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM358, 1088AS and MAX7221XNG. By type, the board carries 23 resistors, 9 capacitors, 5 ICs, 4 connectors, 4 diodes and 3 transistors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Antanteatereater is a guitar/bass effect pedal which consists of a euclidean sequencer running into a VCA. It is based around the digital HY-ESG plugin, but using an analog envelope generator and vca, as well as being in a physical format.

The euclidean sequencer runs on an MCU, in this case an arduino nano, simply because I had one lying around. The pedal has 7 controllable inputs:

Euclidean-VCA: common questions

What microcontroller does the Euclidean-VCA use?

The Euclidean-VCA is built around the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Euclidean-VCA PCB?

The Euclidean-VCA measures 107 × 60.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Euclidean-VCA?

56 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Euclidean-VCA design files?

From the cookiemonsternz/Euclidean-VCA repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Euclidean-VCA design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cookiemonsternz. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Euclidean-VCA without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
