About the PyroPen PCB

PyroPen is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by DerpyDoggo11, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 43 × 10 mm, with 55 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY1616-MNR, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MAX17222ELT+T. By type, the board carries 30 diodes, 12 resistors, 5 connectors, 4 capacitors, 2 ICs and 1 switch.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

My solution to this is the PyroPen - a portable thermal sensor that fits in the palm of your hand! It can also replace a regular pen, meaning that you have this sensor on you wherever you go.

PyroPen: common questions

What microcontroller does the PyroPen use?

The PyroPen is built around the ATTINY1616-MNR, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the PyroPen PCB?

The PyroPen measures 43 × 10 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PyroPen?

55 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PyroPen design files?

From the DerpyDoggo11/PyroPen repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PyroPen design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with DerpyDoggo11. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the PyroPen without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
