About the OpenTNC PCB

OpenTNC is an open source PCB design by devzendo, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 99.1 × 99.1 mm, with 48 components from 29 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 4N35. By type, the board carries 19 resistors, 8 diodes, 6 connectors, 4 capacitors, 3 jumpers and 3 inductors.

From the project

A clone of David Platt AE6EO's OpenTNC, with M0CUV modifications.

This repository holds the firmware code, schematic, and printed-circuit board design files for an AX.25 Terminal Node Controller (TNC) suitable for amateur radio 1200-baud packet radio communication (and, experimentally, 300- and 2400- and 9600-baud as well).

OpenTNC is generally modeled after the original TAPR TNC-2 - it has similar capabilities and a similar command interface. It contains its own AX.25 protocol stack for handling inbound and outbound connections, works with any serial-port terminal emulator, is USB-powered and USB-connected with no special drivers needed, and supports…

OpenTNC: common questions

How big is the OpenTNC PCB?

The OpenTNC measures 99.1 × 99.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the OpenTNC?

48 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OpenTNC design files?

From the devzendo/OpenTNC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OpenTNC design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which devzendo chose for the repository.
