About the Heater shield

Heater shield is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by diegodierick, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.6 × 53.3 mm, with 33 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP1703A-3302/CB, CD4050, PCF8523 and R-78E5.0-0.5. By type, the board carries 10 resistors, 5 connectors, 5 capacitors, 4 ICs, 4 transistors and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

This repository contains code and design files for a four channel Arduino based heater.

This repository contains code and design documentation for an Arduino based four channel heater controller. The system monitors ambient temperature and temperatures in up to four targets. The power to four heaters associated to the targets is continuously adjusted to raise the target temperature above ambient by a configurable offset. Measured temperatures and power input to each heater can be logged to an SD card. Although originally developed for heating small microcosms in biological and ecological research, it is a flexible system with potential applications in various fields.

Heater shield: common questions

What microcontroller does the Heater shield use?

The Heater shield is built around the ARDUINO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Heater shield?

The Heater shield measures 68.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Heater shield?

33 components, from 23 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Heater shield design files?

From the diegodierick/Heater-shield repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Heater shield design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with diegodierick. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Heater shield without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
