About the KiCad-ATMega-Board

KiCad-ATMega-Board is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by DoImant, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 92 × 48.7 mm, with 23 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP1703A-5002_SOT89. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 4 connectors, 4 resistors, 3 diodes, 2 ICs and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

ATMega Barebone PCB. Applicable for battery powered applications. Usable microcontrollers: ATTiny88, ATmega48A/PA, 88A/PA, 168A/PA, 328/P

The usual Arduino boards like the Arduino Uno , Nano, Mini etc. are only conditionally suitable for battery operation.

The current requirement of the built-in LEDs, the USB-UART interface and the quite high quiescent current of the LDO regulator is too high for a longer operation on a battery, even if the microcontroller is in sleep mode.

On the ATMega board only the most necessary components are installed, which are necessary for the operation of a microcontroller. This makes it possible to operate the controller with batteries for a longer time. The screw terminals allow stable and…

KiCad-ATMega-Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the KiCad-ATMega-Board use?

The KiCad-ATMega-Board is built around the ATmega328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the KiCad-ATMega-Board?

The KiCad-ATMega-Board measures 92 × 48.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 4.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the KiCad-ATMega-Board?

23 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the KiCad-ATMega-Board design files?

From the DoImant/KiCad-ATMega-Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the KiCad-ATMega-Board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which DoImant chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the KiCad-ATMega-Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
