About the NrfShield PCB

NrfShield is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by douglaslyon, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.6 × 53.3 mm, with 10 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 9 connectors and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

Code can fail when there is a contention issues between multiple similarly named libraries or the wrong one is present. Make sure you have installed (from the library manager) the latest TMRh20 RF24 library installed. DO NOT use the maniac bug version. The TMRh20 RF24 Library has printf in it as well.

NrfShield: common questions

What microcontroller does the NrfShield use?

The NrfShield is built around the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the NrfShield PCB?

The NrfShield measures 68.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the NrfShield?

10 components, from 7 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the NrfShield design files?

From the douglaslyon/pentester repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the NrfShield design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which douglaslyon chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the NrfShield without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
