About the Skylight PCB

Skylight is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by drakumus, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 126 × 103 mm, with 81 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32A-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 21 diodes, 17 LEDs, 9 capacitors, 6 resistors, 2 connectors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

A numpad with some rotary encoders and a window for your viewing pleasure

NOTE: Flashing on windows requires avrdude. The sourceforge version of Avrdude that I will not link to DELETES YOUR PATH ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE. I did this twice on two different installs of windows before figuring it out. I hope you find a better way to install. You may have better luck with choco package manager for windows but the current version on there is 6.3 which requires custom drivers you must place manually in your system32 folder. The other option is WSL however I believe there are still limitations for that to see COM ports. I hope the future has a more dev friendly approach. ###…

Skylight: common questions

What microcontroller does the Skylight use?

The Skylight is built around the ATmega32A-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Skylight PCB?

The Skylight measures 126 × 103 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Skylight?

81 components, from 23 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Skylight design files?

From the drakumus/Skylight repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Skylight design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with drakumus. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Skylight without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
