About the Opy1 PCB

Opy1 is an open source STM32 PCB design by EvanDesR, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33.2 × 31.4 mm, with 29 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103C8T6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 5 connectors, 5 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal and 1 switch.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

STM32-F103 2 layer development board, featuring UART, SWD, I2C2, and USB breakouts. This project not only gave me a deeper apprieciation for the electrical math. I really was suprised by the incredibly fast, and cheap electronic manufacturing that consumers like myself, can access.

At one point I was considering electrical or computer hardware engineering as a degree, but I decided to just keep it a hobby. This is most recent/best hardware project.

Opy1: common questions

What microcontroller does the Opy1 use?

The Opy1 is built around the STM32F103C8T6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Opy1 PCB?

The Opy1 measures 33.2 × 31.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Opy1?

29 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Opy1 design files?

From the EvanDesR/STM32-devBoard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Opy1 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with EvanDesR. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Opy1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
