About the Stepper board

Stepper board is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by felixzero, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 58.4 × 41.7 mm, with 74 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C8728, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the C133174 and C7512. By type, the board carries 28 resistors, 27 capacitors, 5 ICs, 2 LEDs, 1 crystal and 1 connector.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

Repository for the ESCROCS team for the french robotics cup 2020!

A board, based on an ATMega168PA, meant to control up to 3 1.5A bipolar steppers (the most common kind, used in 3D printers for instance). It can also control up to 3 12V pumps.

Its code is in the code/stepperboard` folder.

The steppers stay actively driven all the time. Over prolonged use of time, the card can get really hot, we recommend to use heatsinks on the stepper drivers.

Stepper board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Stepper board use?

The Stepper board is built around the C8728, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Stepper board?

The Stepper board measures 58.4 × 41.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Stepper board?

74 components, from 26 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Stepper board design files?

From the felixzero/escrocs repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Stepper board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which felixzero chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Stepper board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
