About the Ns-1 PCB
Ns-1 is an open source NXP PCB design by FerretCode, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 172 × 135 mm, with 64 components from 17 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the Teensy4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the Teensy4.0_AudioShield_REVD. By type, the board carries 20 switches, 16 diodes, 8 resistors, 7 connectors, 5 capacitors and 2 ICs.
It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.
From the project
Lo-fi first hardware sampler
- Teensy 4.1 based - 16 Cherry MX switch pads - 1/4" line in/out - 3.5mm headphone jack - 3 rotary encoders for sample editing - 4 potentiometers for FX control - Slider for master track volume control - MicroSD card for loading and exporting samples - Per-pad looping - Resampling - Sampling over USB-C
- The core audio processing functionality is provided by the Teensy 4.1 and its accompanying audio shield (Rev. D) - Adafruit 1.9" TFT display over SPI - Line in/out, headphone jack is handled by the audio shield, with volume control in firmware

Ns-1: common questions
What microcontroller does the Ns-1 use?
The Ns-1 is built around the Teensy4.1, from the NXP family.
How big is the Ns-1 PCB?
The Ns-1 measures 172 × 135 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Ns-1?
64 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Ns-1 design files?
From the FerretCode/ns-1 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Ns-1 design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with FerretCode. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Ns-1 without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
