About the Archetype PCB

Archetype is an open source STM32 PCB design by Fredrik-Reinholdsen, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 60 × 40 mm, with 139 components from 33 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H723ZGTx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the ME6211C33M5G-N, IS42S16160J-xTLI, W25Q128JVS and COS8551TRA. By type, the board carries 68 capacitors, 38 resistors, 15 diodes, 9 ICs, 3 connectors and 2 crystals.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

A powerful SoM for DSP and audio processing

A compact System on Module (SOM) for audio processing and DSP. It features 6-layer, 5x3 cm PCB, a powerful 550 MHz STM32H7 micro-controller with additional peripherals such as a high fidelity audio CODEC, SDRAM and flash memory.

The board has two mezzanine connectors on the back, one for analog signals and one for digital. Many of the STM32 peripherals are wired to and accesible via the mezzanine connectors, including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC inputs.

Archetype: common questions

What microcontroller does the Archetype use?

The Archetype is built around the STM32H723ZGTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Archetype PCB?

The Archetype measures 60 × 40 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Archetype?

139 components, from 33 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Archetype design files?

From the Fredrik-Reinholdsen/archetype repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Archetype design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Fredrik-Reinholdsen. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Archetype without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
