About the Torch cat PCB

Torch cat is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by HeyPCB, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40.3 × 61.3 mm, with 14 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY412-SSNR, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 2 transistors, 2 diodes, 2 capacitors, 1 IC and 1 battery holder.

Boop the cat's nose and its eyes light up your keyhole.

Torch Cat is a keychain flashlight shaped like a black cat, on one CR2032. Its two 2835 white LED eyes are the torch; double-tap its gold nose and they turn into a softly breathing night glow instead. The nose is a touch pad read without touch hardware (RC charge time through 1 MΩ), and its left ear is pierced for the keyring.

Torch cat: common questions

What microcontroller does the Torch cat use?

The Torch cat is built around the ATTINY412-SSNR, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Torch cat PCB?

The Torch cat measures 40.3 × 61.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Torch cat?

14 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Torch cat design files?

From the HeyPCB/torch-cat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Torch cat design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which HeyPCB chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Torch cat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
