About the Programmer PCB

Programmer is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by heyspacebuck, published on GitHub under the BSD-3-Clause license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 17.8 × 54 mm, with 5 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 1 module and 1 connector.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools and power & battery designs in this gallery.

Slot-in Manipulator of Output Levels

It's a little PCB to rapidly turn on/off any simple battery-powered circuits. An Atmel ATTiny drives an N-channel MOSFET, which selectively breaks or completes the circuit. The tiny form factor makes it super-simple to install in a battery-powered circuit. Just slot the board between the negative end of the battery and the spring contact, and run a single wire up to the positive battery terminal.

Programmer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Programmer use?

The Programmer is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Programmer PCB?

The Programmer measures 17.8 × 54 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Programmer?

5 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Programmer design files?

From the heyspacebuck/SMOL repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Programmer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-3-Clause license, which heyspacebuck chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Programmer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
