About the SMOL PCB

SMOL is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by heyspacebuck, published on GitHub under the BSD-3-Clause license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 14.2 × 12.2 mm, with 13 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY10-TS, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TLV61220. By type, the board carries 2 ICs, 2 test points and 1 connector.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

Slot-in Manipulator of Output Levels

It's a little PCB to rapidly turn on/off any simple battery-powered circuits. An Atmel ATTiny drives an N-channel MOSFET, which selectively breaks or completes the circuit. The tiny form factor makes it super-simple to install in a battery-powered circuit. Just slot the board between the negative end of the battery and the spring contact, and run a single wire up to the positive battery terminal.

SMOL: common questions

What microcontroller does the SMOL use?

The SMOL is built around the ATTINY10-TS, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the SMOL PCB?

The SMOL measures 14.2 × 12.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.508 mm thick.

How many components are on the SMOL?

13 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SMOL design files?

From the heyspacebuck/SMOL repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SMOL design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-3-Clause license, which heyspacebuck chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SMOL without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
