About the Ssd PCB

Ssd is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by IanFeldman, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 102.3 × 33.8 mm, with 21 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32U2-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MT29F4G08ABADAWP-ITX_D. By type, the board carries 7 resistors, 6 ICs, 4 capacitors, 2 connectors and 1 crystal.

From the project

2025 Cal Poly EE/CPE senior project aiming to create a usb memory device with nand flash ICs.

UART debugging interferes with some NAND chip control lines. Enable it at your own risk.\ RAID is performed across all 4 chips, so it decreases the address space fourfold.

Note: - is three bytes and represents a page address. Max value: 0x0FFFFF (0x040000 with RAID enabled). - is two bytes and represents a page offset in bytes. Max value: 0x07FF. - is one byte. - is a decimal unsigned integer.

Ssd: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ssd use?

The Ssd is built around the ATmega32U2-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Ssd PCB?

The Ssd measures 102.3 × 33.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ssd?

21 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ssd design files?

From the IanFeldman/ssd repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ssd design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with IanFeldman. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Ssd without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
