About the Simple brushed PCB

Simple brushed is an open source STM32 PCB design by ill-ev-concept, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 97 × 72.8 mm, with 46 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103C8TX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the TC1108-3.3VDBTR, ISO1050DUB, LMR51625YDDCR, DGD0211CWT-7 and STPS30H100DJF. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 9 resistors, 6 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

First implementation of simple brushed motor controller

This is the simple version of the brushed motor controller for EV3, my current documentation can be found here

Additionally, the code can be found here

Currently works on the bench with minor modifications and problems:

- Footprint for mosfet is reversed, so bodge wire was used to swap trace for gate pin - Buck converter possibly having some issues, previously worked in testing, but now doesnt function so it is being bypassed - Gate driver IC seems to pull down the STMs PWM signal to 2 volts peak, which is just enough for it to detect, but 3.3v is prefered

Simple brushed: common questions

What microcontroller does the Simple brushed use?

The Simple brushed is built around the STM32F103C8TX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Simple brushed PCB?

The Simple brushed measures 97 × 72.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Simple brushed?

46 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Simple brushed design files?

From the ill-ev-concept/simple-brushed repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Simple brushed design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ill-ev-concept. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Simple brushed without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
