About the Auto dimmer PCB

Auto dimmer is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by ilyushkin, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 51 × 70 mm, with 46 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny13A-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP1755S-5002ED and SGM809B-MXN3LG. By type, the board carries 19 resistors, 10 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 diodes, 2 transistors and 2 fuses.

From the project

Automatic dimmer for IKEA NYMANE (103.569.62) lamp based on AVR ATtiny13A MCU.

If the button is held for more than 2 seconds, auto-dimming mode activates with a 20-minute countdown, during which the lamp gradually dims from the current brightness to zero. This is convenient for falling asleep without leaving the light on. The logic is somewhat similar to the dimming-out functionality of the Philips Wake-up Light alarm clock, just without all the bells and whistles.

Auto dimmer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Auto dimmer use?

The Auto dimmer is built around the ATtiny13A-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Auto dimmer PCB?

The Auto dimmer measures 51 × 70 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.89 mm thick.

How many components are on the Auto dimmer?

46 components, from 30 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Auto dimmer design files?

From the ilyushkin/auto_dimmer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Auto dimmer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which ilyushkin chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Auto dimmer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
