About the Gatekeeper PCB

Gatekeeper is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Ingimarsson, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 61 components from 37 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LMR16006YQ. By type, the board carries 17 resistors, 12 connectors, 11 diodes, 7 capacitors, 4 transistors and 2 ICs.

From the project

Access control and monitoring system for electric door locks and automatic traffic barriers.

- Install Arduino IDE - Install libraries Ethernet2 and Wiegand (see zips in lib folder) - Write "ArduinoISP" program from examples to an Arduino Nano (we will use as a programmer) - Select programmer "Arduino as ISP" in IDE menu - Connect Arduino Nano to ISP pins on device, all pins are same but D10 (nano) to reset (device) - Arduino Nano reset must be pulled to ground when programming starts, and released after first timeout

Gatekeeper: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gatekeeper use?

The Gatekeeper is built around the ATmega328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Gatekeeper PCB?

The Gatekeeper measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gatekeeper?

61 components, from 37 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gatekeeper design files?

From the Ingimarsson/gatekeeper repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gatekeeper design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Ingimarsson chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Gatekeeper without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
