About the Hackpadkeyboard PCB

Hackpadkeyboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by jjtseng-jjtseng, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.5 × 99.5 mm, with 50 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Seeed XIAO RP2040 board, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 32 diodes, 17 switches and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A keyboard that can type an absurdly large amount of characters in a short space.

A keyboard that can type an absurdly large amount of characters in a short space. By combining the 16 keys with the knob, each turn of the knob makes each key type a different thing. This way, you can go from your normal A B C's to weird hieroglyphics.

- 3d printed case (bottom section with a usb c hole wita top cover with a knob and key hole(s)) - 99.5 x99.5 mm pcb with a 4x4 matrix of buttons on it (+ knob) - 16 LED's for each of buttons (cool lighting effects)

Hackpadkeyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hackpadkeyboard use?

The Hackpadkeyboard is built around the Seeed XIAO RP2040 board, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Hackpadkeyboard PCB?

The Hackpadkeyboard measures 99.5 × 99.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hackpadkeyboard?

50 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hackpadkeyboard design files?

From the jjtseng-jjtseng/hackpadkeyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hackpadkeyboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jjtseng-jjtseng. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Hackpadkeyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
