About the AVLO68 PCB

AVLO68 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by johnplanow, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 356.5 × 105.4 mm, with 112 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ProMicro, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 44 switches, 44 diodes, 10 inductors, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Avlo44 is a 6x3+4 column-staggered, split, unibody keyboard.

Avlo44 is a 6x3+4 column-staggered, split, unibody keyboard.

Inspired by the Kyria, Reviung41 and Lily58, it was designed with the following goals in mind:

Goal: Easy to carry around the office with my laptop when I have meetings. Choice: Unibody design. I like split keyboards, but they can be awkward to pick up and carry around. Choice: Wireless. I intend to install a nice!nano on the board eventually. Goal: Minimize keymap customization and learning curve for everyday office work and programming.1 Corollary: This means 3x6 with dedicated keys for all Mac modifiers. I don't find a…

AVLO68: common questions

What microcontroller does the AVLO68 use?

The AVLO68 is built around the ProMicro, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the AVLO68 PCB?

The AVLO68 measures 356.5 × 105.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the AVLO68?

112 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the AVLO68 design files?

From the johnplanow/avlokbd repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the AVLO68 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which johnplanow chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the AVLO68 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
