About the High res scrollwheel PCB

High res scrollwheel is an open source STM32 PCB design by Jonathan-C-L, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 59 × 44 mm, with 25 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32G0B1RETx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, AS5600 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 connectors, 1 crystal and 1 switch.

From the project

A high resolution scroll wheel project with up to 1 pixel per degree of rotation resolution. This was built upon the STM32 platform, with a PCB was custom made by me and the firmware was created with the help of Claude Code (primarily for USB configurations).

High res scrollwheel: common questions

What microcontroller does the High res scrollwheel use?

The High res scrollwheel is built around the STM32G0B1RETx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the High res scrollwheel PCB?

The High res scrollwheel measures 59 × 44 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the High res scrollwheel?

25 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the High res scrollwheel design files?

From the Jonathan-C-L/high-res-scrollwheel repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the High res scrollwheel design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Jonathan-C-L. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the High res scrollwheel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
