Darkstar Mk.II: common questions

What microcontroller does the Darkstar Mk.II use?

The Darkstar Mk.II is built around the ATTINY841-SSU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Darkstar Mk.II PCB?

The Darkstar Mk.II measures 34 × 34 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Darkstar Mk.II?

56 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Darkstar Mk.II design files?

From the kajusK/Darkstar-Mk.II repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Darkstar Mk.II design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which kajusK chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Darkstar Mk.II without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
