About the Goatgdo PCB

Goatgdo is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by Kaldek, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 32.9 × 53.3 mm, with 23 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12E/F, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the M2-POST. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 capacitors, 2 transistors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open source schematics for ratgdo PCB

A reworking of the Bare ESP8266 board design that uses USB-C for power instead of an LM2596 submodule, and uses just one GDO connector header to allow for a smaller board footprint.

Compatable with RatGDO ESPHome software for the v2.5 official board.

Populating the Flash switch, Reset switch, and ICSP header are optional, but will make first time programming easier.

Goatgdo: common questions

What microcontroller does the Goatgdo use?

The Goatgdo is built around the ESP-12E/F, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Goatgdo PCB?

The Goatgdo measures 32.9 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Goatgdo?

23 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Goatgdo design files?

From the Kaldek/rat-ratgdo repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Goatgdo design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Kaldek chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Goatgdo without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
