About the Blink Eras PCB

Blink Eras is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by kbob, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 27.9 × 20.3 mm, with 12 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY85-M, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the ICM7555. By type, the board carries 4 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 diodes, 2 capacitors, 1 connector and 1 battery holder.

From the project

First KiCAD project. Learn KiCAD, blink an LED.

Blinking an LED as it was done in the 1970s (555) and the 1990s (AVR).

I am using this project to learn KiCAD and SMT fabrication. Also learning to use pogo pins to flash a microcontroller.

I designed and built a jig to hold pogo pins against the board's ISP headers to program the AVR. In the end, I did not use the jig; it did not press the pogo pins against the contacts hard enough to make a solid connection.

Blink Eras: common questions

What microcontroller does the Blink Eras use?

The Blink Eras is built around the ATTINY85-M, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Blink Eras PCB?

The Blink Eras measures 27.9 × 20.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6002 mm thick.

How many components are on the Blink Eras?

12 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Blink Eras design files?

From the kbob/Blink-Eras repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Blink Eras design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-4.0 license, which kbob chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Blink Eras without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
