About the Phone test jig PCB

Phone test jig is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by kcxt, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 75 × 60.6 mm, with 32 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LSF0102YZTR and AP2192. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 7 capacitors, 6 connectors, 3 ICs, 3 diodes and 1 crystal.

KiCad design for OnePlus 6 (and potentially other) phone test jigs.

The OnePlus 6 test jig is a proof of concept designed to turn the OnePlus 6 into a device which can be used in a board farm!

The PCB contains a header at the top for soldering wires onto test points on the phone, it features an Atmega32u4 which can act as a UARTUSB adapter, an LSF0102 bidirectional logic level voltage translator to convert the UART from the 5v of the Atmega down to the 1.8v of the phone (and vice versa).

Phone test jig: common questions

What microcontroller does the Phone test jig use?

The Phone test jig is built around the ATMEGA32U4, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Phone test jig PCB?

The Phone test jig measures 75 × 60.6 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Phone test jig?

32 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Phone test jig design files?

From the kcxt/phone-test-jig repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Phone test jig design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which kcxt chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Phone test jig without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
