About the Pocket pet PCB

Pocket pet is an open source STM32 PCB design by kondovskii, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 55 × 70 mm, with 31 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32L433CCTX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MCP73831-2-OT and MCP1700X-330XXTT. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 8 resistors, 5 connectors, 3 ICs, 3 switches and 1 test point.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Battery-powered handheld virtual pet on a custom 2-layer STM32L433 PCB. FreeRTOS, hand-written SSD1306 and LIS3DH drivers, wake-on-motion.

Status: working. Board assembled and running the full firmware — display, accelerometer, buttons, and battery power all verified on the custom hardware.

Built to close four specific gaps: custom PCB design, bare-metal ARM programming, RTOS usage, and datasheet-level driver work. Every part was chosen and every driver written from the datasheet rather than pulled from a library, so that each decision is defensible.

Pocket pet: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pocket pet use?

The Pocket pet is built around the STM32L433CCTX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Pocket pet PCB?

The Pocket pet measures 55 × 70 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pocket pet?

31 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pocket pet design files?

From the kondovskii/pocket-pet repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pocket pet design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with kondovskii. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pocket pet without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
