About the SidewinderToUSBV2 PCB

SidewinderToUSBV2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Kreeblah, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 41.9 × 39.6 mm, with 27 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 9 resistors, 3 connectors, 1 IC, 1 crystal and 1 switch.

From the project

Integrated Sidewinder adaptor with assembly files for various manufacturers

NOTE 2: The current parts shortage means that the microcontroller used in this design is in short supply. I have successfully tested the design with an ATmega32u4RC-MU substituted for the original ATmega32u4-MU. No changes need to be made to the programming or board design to substitute the part in.

This project is an integrated Sidewinder adaptor, which includes assembly files for various manufacturers. This project originated as a combination of the adapt-ffb-joy project (minus the trim pots) with the Teensy 2.0 in order to remove the requirement for a comparatively expensive Teensy module…

SidewinderToUSBV2: common questions

What microcontroller does the SidewinderToUSBV2 use?

The SidewinderToUSBV2 is built around the ATMEGA32U4-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the SidewinderToUSBV2 PCB?

The SidewinderToUSBV2 measures 41.9 × 39.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SidewinderToUSBV2?

27 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SidewinderToUSBV2 design files?

From the Kreeblah/SidewinderToUSBV2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SidewinderToUSBV2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which Kreeblah chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SidewinderToUSBV2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
