About the Macro PCB

Macro is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Mahinpatelin, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64.6 × 41.9 mm, with 20 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 9 switches, 9 diodes, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

This is for my hack club project for the macro pad which will help me with my everyday tasks

An end-to-end mechatronics build combining PCB design, embedded firmware, human-machine-interface design, and a 3D-printed enclosure. The device uses eight mechanical keys, an EC11 rotary encoder with push switch, an OLED header, and a Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040.

- Designed a custom 2 × 5 electrical key matrix in KiCad with one intentionally unpopulated matrix position. - Added per-switch diodes to prevent ghosting during multi-key input. - Integrated an RP2040 microcontroller, incremental encoder, encoder push switch, and I²C OLED connector. - Implemented QMK firmware for key scanning, volume…

Macro: common questions

What microcontroller does the Macro use?

The Macro is built around the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Macro PCB?

The Macro measures 64.6 × 41.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Macro?

20 components, from 5 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Macro design files?

From the Mahinpatelin/Macro repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Macro design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Mahinpatelin chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Macro without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
